Physical Therapist, Inpatient, University of Louisville Hospital, Weekend, PRN

Job Description
Overview

A professional who provide services (evaluation, interventions, and planning) to patients/clients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. They interact and practice in collaboration with a variety of professionals including physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurses, educators, social workers, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. The therapist will also provide appropriate education to patients and or family.

Responsibilities

OUTPATIENT:

1. Manages patient care by first completing an evaluation, establishing a treatment plan with objective and measurable goals (outcomes), and provides direct intervention or supervision thereof.
2. Performs therapeutic procedures (exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, gait, massage, manual therapy, orthotic fitting and training, prosthetic training, dynamic activities, wound care, compression garments
3. Utilizes exercise equipment (treadmill, ergometers, leg-press, un-weighting device, fitter, ankle platform system, pulley system).
4. Performs modalities (moist heat, ice, mechanical traction, electrical stimulation, vaso-pneumatic devices, paraffin, hydrotherapy, fluidotherapy, ultraviolet, iontophoresis, ultrasound,).
5. Delegate's tasks and duties as indicated
6. Participates in continuing education, departmental meetings, and in-service programs.
7. Adjusts patient care schedule and prioritizes tasks as indicated
8. Performs documentation per policy and procedures (evaluation, progress notes, discharge summary, and multi-disciplinary education and treatment plan forms).
9. Performs patient and family education regarding interventions, disease/injury, safety, and wellness.
10. Participates in quality improvement initiatives
11. Participates in discharge planning with the multi-disciplinary team.
12. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
13. Follows all regulations for charge determination and billing, completes required documents or system for supply and treatment charges
14. Participates in clinical supervision/instruction of students
15. Complies with all departmental and facility policy, procedures, and directives (i.e. role delineation and scope of care).
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

INPATIENT:

4. Performs modalities (moist heat, ice, electrical stimulation).
5. Delegate's tasks and duties as indicated
6. Participates in continuing education, departmental meetings, and in-service programs.
7. Adjusts patient care schedule and prioritizes tasks as indicated
8. Adheres to Safe Patient Handling principles in all patient care interactions and champions safe patient handling throughout the hospital.
9. Performs documentation per policy and procedures (evaluation, progress notes, discharge summary).
10. Performs patient and family education regarding interventions, disease/injury, safety, and wellness.
11. Participates in quality improvement initiatives
12. Participates in discharge planning with the multi-disciplinary team, including recommending patient disposition post-acute care.
13. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
14. Follows all regulations for charge determination and billing, completes required documents or system for supply and treatment charges
15. Provides clinical instruction and supervision of students
16. Complies with all departmental and facility policy, procedures, and directives (i.e. role delineation and scope of care).
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):

• BS/MS/DPT degree in physical therapy required.

• DPT degree preferred.

• Valid PT License Kentucky State Board of Physical Therapy

Certification

• CPR, BLS through the American Heart Association.

Experience (required and preferred):

• Experience in physical therapy preferred for outpatient positions.

• Acute care physical therapy experience required for acute care positions.
