As an Education Coordinator you will:
- Work within the context of a dynamic client and family-centred care model, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists, and the vision and values of the organization, including Indigenous Cultural Safety, cultural humility and anti-racism principles.
- Work in a team based environment, provide instruction, education, act as a resource person and coordinate the Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) education for patients with sleep disorders at the University of British Columbia Hospital.
- Coordinate the delivery of PAP education programs in collaboration with the Medical Director, Manager and Sleep Disorders Education, Research and Quality Lead to improve the health and quality of life for admitted and outpatient home patients requiring PAP.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Diploma in a health care discipline such as respiratory therapy, nursing or electroneurophysiology technology from an accredited institution or Completion of a STAR-designated Focused education program approved by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) or a Canadian Accredited Polysomnography Program or equivalent.
- Two (2) years' recent related experience in sleep study work or and equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
- Current certification in Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR-C).
Knowledge & Abilities
- Broad knowledge of current respiratory theory and practice within the client/family centered model for care.
- Broad knowledge of the BRPT clinical practice guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care and to respond appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and respond to new or unexpected events.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a culturally safe and respectful manner, with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and patients/clients and their circle of care.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of outside agencies.
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge to apply department policy and procedures.
- Basic computer literacy (word processing and spreadsheets such as MS Word, Excel, etc.) to operate a computerized patient care system.
- Demonstrated skill in CPR technique.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated ability and skills to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the job.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
